malgorithm

price : $285.00

The Malgorithm is a voltage-controlled bit depth and sample-rate reducer, colloquially known as a "bitcrusher". From the severely reduced dynamic range and quantization noise of bitwise truncation, to the unique frequency foldover of a low sampling rate, the "undesirable" side effects of early digital audio systems may be used as rich creative utilities. This module provides such a system with a rich voltage control interface.

As a bonus feature, a stage of simple digital waveshaping sits before the audio output. Straightforward bitwise operations may completely destroy the audio signal at this stage. The signal may also be rectified at this point.

Use the Malgorithm to bring external signals into aesthetic compliance with the rest of the Harvestman system. Enable eloquence through spectral profanity.

Specifications:
20kHz maximum sampling rate
8 bits maximum resolution
10Vpp signal output
Input attenuation. Hard analog clipping on hot signals if desired.
Voltage controlled bit depth and sampling rate with attenuators. Manual control/CV offset.
Control voltages are processed at the same priority as audio input.
Toggle switches for rectification of signal, as well as destructive bitwise waveshaping influenced by my background in circuit bending.
5V power source selectable by jumper.
Panel size: 9HP

The user manual is available online here and a YouTube demonstation video is also online here.
